Tantangan KBB #3: Vegetable Pizza

Ever since I got to this country, I noticed that the dutchies are not obsessed with food. And I do mean every word I said. Two pieces of dry bread and a slice of cheese qualify as a good lunch meal for them. And, don’t you love it when they actually eat that with fork and knife. That never fails to entertain me ;p.

Two weeks ago, an email came in my inbox. The third challenge of “Klub Berani Baking” was the title of the email. At first, I was a bit skeptical. I have had numerous failed attempts in making bread. The recipe does not look that complicated, so I gave it a try.

To my surprise, the dough turn out beautifully. Soft pizza crust that melts in your mouth. Alrite a bit exaggeration there. But, this pizza dough recipe is pretty good. The topping can vary to suit your liking. I made two toppings: Everything-that-is-in-my-fridge topping and the vegetable pizza topping. Enjoy!

Pizza base:

1 sachet (@ 7g = 1/4 oz = 2 tsp) dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
343 gr bread flour (high-grade flour, tepung cakra kembar, tarwebloem)
salt
2 Tbs olive oil

Direction:
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in a small bowl with 200ml (6 ½ fl oz) of tepid water. Stir well and set aside for 10 minutes, or until the mixture froths.

Place the flour and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a firm dough forms.

Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place in a clean, lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap and leave in a warm place for 1-1 ½ hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 210C (415F, Gas Mark 6-7).

Punch down the dough with your fist to release the air. Divide into two or three equal portions and roll out or press to a thickness of 4-5mm (¼ in). Transfer to lightly oiled pizza trays.

Top with your choice of toppings and cook for 15 minutes. Then slide the pizza off the tray onto the oven shelf and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, to crisp up the base. (For making vegetable pizza, you do not need to reheat the base, just set it aside to cool)

Vegetable Topping
2 pack (8 ounces each) of cream cheese
230 gr of mayonnaise
1 tbs of garlic powder
a pinch of black pepper powder.

200 gr broccoli, chopped
200 gr cauliflower, chopped
2 carrots, chopped.
1 green bell pepper, chopped.
1 red pepper, chopped.
1 tomato, cubed.
1 pack of shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:
In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayo, garlic powder and black pepper. Spread the mixture over the cooled pizza base. Arrange vegetables over it. Garnish with shredded cheddar cheese. Chill before serving.

Versi Bahasa Indonesia: (Please scroll upwards for recipe in English)

Untuk adonan dasar Pizza:

1 sachet (@ 7g = 1/4 oz = 2 sdt) ragi (Misalnya: Fermipan atau merek lainnya)
1 sdt gula pasir
343 cups tepung protein tinggi (tepung cakra kembar/tarwebloem)
garam (irma pakai 1/4 sdt)
2 sdm minyak zaitun (irma pakai minyak makan)

Cara mengolahnya:

Larutkan ragi dan gula di mangkuk kecil dengan 200ml air hangat. Aduk rata dan sisihkan selama 10 menit, atau hingga campuran raginya berbuih.

Campur tepung dan sejumput garam di mangkuk besar. Buatlah lubang di tenga-tengah campuran tepung dan masukkan ragi dan olive oil. Campur hingga menjadi adonan.

Taburi meja kerja dengan sedikit tepung, lalu uleni adonan selama 5-7 menit, atau hingga lembut dan elastic (ciri-cirinya di tangan dan di meja kerja ga lengket lagi dan adonan kelihatan mengkilat).
Tempatkan adonan di dalam mangkuk yang sudah diolesi dengan minyak, tutup dengan serbet lembab atau plastik dan biarkan di tempat yang hangat selama 1 – 1 ½ jam, atau hingga adonannya membengkak berlipat ganda.

Panaskan oven suhu 210C (415F, Gas Mark 6-7).

Tinju adonan untuk mengeluarkan gelembung udara. Bagi adonan menjadi 2-3 bagian yang sama dan gilas atau tekan-tekan seukuran 4-5mm (¼ inci). Pindahkan ke loyang pizza (kalau ada). (Alternatif lain menggunakan loyang biskuit dan adonannya dibentuk bulatan lalu gilas).

Tutup dengan pilihan topping kesukaan masing-masing dan panggang selama 15 menit. Lalu pindahkan pizza ke atas rak oven dan panggang lagi selama 3-4 menit, hingga lebih garing di bagian bawahnya. (Untuk vegetable pizza jangan, dioven lagi, tapi roti didinginkan saja)

Vegetable Topping
2 pak (8 ounces) cream cheese
230 mayonnaise
1 sdm bawang putih bubuk
sejumput merica

200 gr brokoli, potong kecil-kecil
200 gr bunga kol, potong kecil-kecil
2 buah wortel, potong dadu kecil-kecil
1 paprika hijau, potong dadu kecil
1 paprika merah, chopped.
1 tomat, potong kotak kecil
1 bungkus keju parut

Cara:
Aduk cream cheese, mayonnaise, bawang putih bubuk, dan merica di sebuah mangkuk. Oleskan ke atas roti yang sudah dingin. Hias dengan sayuran dan taburi dengan keju parut. Dinginkan sebelum penyajian.
